Literary writer Vinod Kumar Shukla was in discussions for three days because he had disclosed the total earnings of his life in front of everyone, after which other officials and journalists including many creators on Vani Prakashan and Rajkamal Prakashan protested on Twitter and what happened to them. Said wrong.
In this regard, both Vani Prakashan and Rajkamal Prakashan have given their respective answers.
In response, Vani Prakashan has said that: The relation of Vani Prakashan with respected Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla is from the year 1996. His novel ‘Deewar Mein Ek Khirki Raheti Thi’ was published on 31 July 1997 and for this he was also remitted an advance royalty. With this, a creative literary journey started in his presence.

In the year 2002, a contract was signed with Shukla ji for the English translation of ‘Servant’S SHIRT’, which was decided to be translated from Hindi to English by Satti Khanna. Earlier, in the year 2000, the manuscript of his book ‘No Extra’ was received. In the year 2010, we sent a request letter from Shukla ji for his favorite selected poems for the series ‘Fifty Poems’, which he gladly accepted.
In the year 2013, I told Shukla ji in a letter that in the fourth row from bottom to top on page number 119 of ‘There used to be a window in the wall’, instead of ‘Head of Department’, there should be ‘Principal’ – one such reader said. has been suggested. In this sequence, in the year 2016, Shukla ji said in his letter that there were some other mistakes in the proof of ‘There used to be a window in the wall’, he would like to rectify them. He also said in this letter not to print the next edition without his knowledge.
I wrote to him in a letter on 3rd February 2017 to send the amendments at the earliest so that the book never goes out of stock. No reply was received from them. The book was re-proofread and a new edition was published for the readers. The details of the new version have been given to him in the royalty statement.
The following books of Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla are published by Vani Prakashan:
- There used to be a window in the wall The first edition was published in the year 1997 hardbound 125/-, in the year 2000 paperback edition 50/-. Hardbound and paperback editions were published at the same price until 2010. This was followed by a hardbound edition at Rs 250/- and paperback at Rs 125/-. From the year 2018, hardbound editions were published at 395/- and paperback editions at 195/-. There is a 15% royalty on hardbound and 10% on paperback.
- not extra The first hardbound edition was published at Rs.125/-. The second edition was published in 2011 at Rs.250/-. The royalty rate is 15%. The book is now out of print.
- Fifty Poems – Selections for the New Century The first paperback edition was published in the year 2013 at 60/-. The rate was increased by 5/- in the year 2015. The royalty rate is 5%. Shri Shukla ji has also mentioned about the e-book version in the video received today. There has been correspondence with Kindle in which they are saying that the e-book is not even in their knowledge, they are looking into this matter. A copy of the mail is attached. Apart from this, the e-book of Shri Shukla ji was not made available by Vani Prakashan on Google Books also. This we are authentically saying that we have not received any amount from the alleged sale of Shri Shukla ji’s books from Google and Kindle. A letter dated 29 October 2021 was received by Shri Shukla ji, in which he had asked for the details of the remaining copies of ‘Will Mein A Window Lives’. I was in the hospital in the month of November due to ill health. The reply to this letter was sent on December 4, 2021, in which I again assured him that the new edition will be published only after the amendments are received. Also reminded about ‘THE SERVANT’S SHIRT’. He said that a long time has passed since this contract, it should be canceled. To keep the communication clear, I also sent him the full details of royalties which he did not reply to. His displeasure was learned from the video found today. Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla holds an important place in the tradition of Indian literature and speech publication. Royalty amounts have always been sent to them. Special attention has been paid to the promotion and availability of his books. Whenever he wanted to know how many copies of his books were left, the details of this have been sent to him. Any author reserves the right to seek information about his/her book from the publisher at any time. We have always felt proud by publishing Shukla ji’s books. In the year 1999, ‘There was a window in the wall’ also received the Sahitya Akademi Award. It became a cause of celebration for Shukla ji as well as for us and it is a golden chapter in our publication history. Today Shukla ji is going through hardship, it is painful for us too. Till now all his contract papers from Vani Prakashan are not in difficult legal language. According to the contract made by the copyright managers of litterateur Nirmal Verma and Swadesh Deepak, if Shukla ji wants to make a new contract, then he is welcome. We are trying our utmost to maintain this cordial relationship
- The same Rajkamal publication has written while giving its clarification that: Vinod Kumar Shukla ji is a respected writer of Rajkamal publication. His faith has been in us. We have come to obey his every word. There is no such instance that we have not replied to any of his letters, or we have not spoken to him in that context. He never sent us any letter asking to take back any of his books. Never said anything like this even on the phone. He signed a contract for the publication of his only short story collection ‘Maha Vidyalaya’ with us in June last year and kept requesting for its early publication. Which came from the press, published last week. Vinod ji and his son Shashwat Gopal Shukla have received praise for their cover and production before and after the release of Mahavidyalaya. Prior to this book published during my tenure, Vinod ji has been receiving advance royalty for almost all the books. This was the first time that he did not talk of advance royalty for the ‘college’. We saw it as their belief. The talk of mistrust has come through social media for the first time. Apart from Rajkamal Prakashan, Vinod’s books have been published in Hindi by Aadhar Prakashan and Vani Prakashan. He had a total of five books from Aadhaar, out of which one ‘MahaVidyalaya’ (story collection) was given by Vinod ji to Rajkamal in June, 2021, it is published in March, 2022. The other four books are:
- Servant’s Shirt (Hard Bound; Novel)
- Khileega To Dekhenge (Hard Bound, Paperback; Novel)
- The Man Gone Like Thoughts Wearing New Warm Coat (Poems Collection)
- The sky knocks the earth (poem) The paperback edition of ‘Servant’s Kameez’ is printed by Rajkamal. It has published a total of five editions in the last 10 years. Each edition has been of 1100 (eleven hundred) copies. The details of which have been regularly mentioned in the royalty statement. Its e-book has also been released by Rajkamal on Kindle, whose royalty has been going to Vinod ji.
Apart from Rajkamal, there are five more books by Vinod ji: - Long Poems from Poetry (Hard Bound; Compilation of Long Poems)
- Representative Poems (Paperback; Poem)
- Everything will be saved (Hard Bound; Poetry); First published in paperback in February 2022
- Ever After Now (Hard Bound, Poem); First published in paperback in October 2021
- Green Grass Thatch and Dwarf Mountain (novel; Hard Bound, Paperback) We have always been saying that any author can check the stock of his book published from us at any time. Can check the entire sales account of the book whenever he wants.
Vinod ji is an elderly and respected member of our writer family. Respect for his wish is always of paramount importance to us. We will do whatever they want. We will talk to them together to find out why they suddenly started feeling bonded and distressed on our side. Whatever they say next, it will happen.
